Michihamono Tsuki Nomi 15mm Woodcarving Tool Large Short Bent Spoon Gouge
This wood carving tool is great for adding layers and creating a hollowed surface to your wood carving projects.
Made by Michihamono, a renowned Japanese company that manufactures quality carving tools for woodblock printing and sculpture, this large, sharp Tsuki Nomi short bent tool is crafted from White Paper Steel (Shirogami No. 2) that is easy to sharpen and can be forged to a great hardness that translates to exceptional edge retention. A ferrule is added to hold the shank in place and at the same time compress the long and smooth handle made from Japanese cherry blossom wood to keep it from splitting.
This wood carving tool can be used to produce and finish hollow surfaces with its blade that is designed similar to a spoon. It can also be used in reaching areas where straight gouges can't. It sits between wood carving tools that removes larger amounts of wood and those used for intricate carving. This Japanese Tsuki Nomi has a more shallow, higher angle bevel, allowing for sharper cutting than full size socket wood carving tools and more durable than finer types of wood carving tools. Often used for Buddhist sculptures and Noh masks in Japan.
