Michihamono Wood Carving 15.0mm Short Bent Spoon Flat Gouge Woodcarving Tool
This woodworking short bent gouge creates very shallow cuts on the surface of the wood. Great for leveling and finishing backgrounds such as in relief carving.
This large wood carving too is made in Japan and forged from Blue Steel (Aogami No. 2) that contains chromium and tungsten to increase wear resistance for longer-lasting sharpness. It is the same material used in making Japanese high-end cutting tools. The tang of this tool is embedded in a Japanese cypress wood handle that has a smooth, round finish that fits comfortably into your hand.
This tool is the better choice for finishing flat surfaces than wood carving chisel because of its very shallow curve. In relief carving, it can access closed backgrounds (a flat area enclosed by wood projections) with its bent blade to level it out. Buy this along with the other sizes to carve wood in different widths depending on your needs. Available in 7.5mm, 4.5mm, and 1.5mm sizes (sold separately).
