This craftsman-made high-quality woodblock chisel is made by Michihamono from high-end Blue Paper Steel (Aogami No.2) that is very strong and hard, which makes them good at retaining shape and resisting abrasion. This tool can be honed to a very sharp cutting edge, making it great for wood carving. It has an ergonomic handle with a smooth, rounded finish made from cherry blossom wood that provides great control when using. This tool is added with a ferrule at the end of the handle to avoid the handle from splitting.

This Kento Nomi has an extremely sharp and straight cutting edge and is used in carving registration marks on woodblock. These registration marks help position the paper correctly when performing woodblock printing.

Approximate Dimensions & Product Data:

  • Blade Material: Blue Paper Steel (Aogami No.2)
  • Blade Width: 15mm
  • Handle Material: Cherry Blossom Wood
  • Overall Length: 130mm

To create registration marks using this Kento Nomi, grip the handle with your hand, similar to holding a dagger, resting upright on the board with its cutting edge exactly at the line to be cut. Using your other hand, place your thumb behind the blade to keep it from making unnecessary movements. Then press the tool downward to make a cut about one-eighteenth of an inch or 1.5mm deep. After cutting the necessary lines, clear the space and make sure the depth is two to three times the thickness of the paper.

Please note: The blade edge is sharp, keep out of the reach of children. Store without the blade contacting any hard surface to avoid dulling the cutting edge.
