Michihamono 4.5mm Premium Small Wood Carving Tool Round Edge Straight Flat Chisel, with High Speed Steel Blade, to Carve Wood in Woodworking
This wood carving flat chisel with adjustable blade length can be used to clear non-print regions of a relief carving. This tool carves in the same way as a U-gouge, but with less ridges.
Carve wood with this premium wood carving chisel from Michihamono, a renowned company for manufacturing quality carving tools. This wood carving tool is forged from a strong piece of quality high-speed steel that is sharpened, making it ready to use right out of the package. The brass ferrule can be removed from the handle made from durable cherry blossom wood to reveal the whole blade. In this way, the protruding part of the blade can be adjusted according to preference. By extending the blade out as the blade wears down from repeated sharpening, this tool will have a longer-lasting service compared to conventional wood carving tools.
This wood carving chisel has a 4.5mm wide cutting edge, great for smoothing out backgrounds of a relief carving or producing flat surfaces in your wood. This tool is available in different blade sizes for carving wood in various widths (each sold separately).

When removing the blade, start by removing the bolster using pliers or other similar tools and then using the hinge pin to pivot the top half of the handle until the whole length of the blade and shank is fully exposed then pull it upwards to detach it from the handle. Proceed to sharpen the blade using a whetstone before returning the blade in the handle channel with the hook being in its original place or extending the blade to a higher position if it was worn down. Increments to the blade should be done one centimetre apart to limit the number of anchor points as this can weaken the tool. The handle enough can provide the required friction to hold the blade in its place and therefore no need for use of adhesives or lubricants as these do affect the functioning of the tool. To keep your tool safe from deformation, ensure that you limit the amount of excessive backwards pressure that you use on the blade’s front when pushing it backwards. However, in the case that your hook is damaged, contact the manufacturer for a replacement. When used with proper care, this tool will still deliver excellent performance even after being worn out by almost twice the original length from the bolster when it was still new.
Please note: The blade edge is sharp, keep out of the reach of children. Store without the blade contacting any hard surface to avoid dulling the cutting edge.
