Handcrafted to perfection, this wood carving tool is forged from a strong piece of quality high speed steel to create this very fine, 1mm thin blade that is already sharp when delivered to you. The brass ferrule can be removed from the handle to reveal the whole blade. In this way, the protruding part of the blade can be adjusted according to preference. This feature can also be helpful when sharpening the blade edge by removing the whole blade from the handle and moved forward as the blade wears down, ensuring many years of use.

This tool is great for getting into very tight spaces of wood carvings that normal gouges can't get into. With its 1mm curve blade, it can create detailed lines and smooth separations such as hairs, outlines, and other similar carvings. It can also be used in carving texts on a woodblock.

Approximate Dimensions & Product Data:

To use this U gouge chisel, first, clean the blade edge and the surface of the wood you are going to carve because any debris or dirt can affect the performance of this tool. Hold the handle firmly with your hand and carefully carve with a light to moderate forward pressure as to avoid bending, or breaking the tool. Do the process repeatedly until you are satisfied with the result.

Please keep in mind that this quality wood carving tool features an extremely fine, detailed blade that should only be handled with great caution. Please follow the guidelines below to avoid breaking or bending the blade.

  • This tool should not be struck with any object, such as a mallet when cutting wood,
  • Do not attempt to remove large amounts of wood per stroke. Trim or shave only a small amount of wood from your project at a time using multiple small strokes,
  • Do not use this tool to penetrate the wood any more than the thickness of the blade,
  • Never use the blade of this tool as a lever to remove wood,
  • Cutting strokes should be only vertical (i.e., up or down), with minimal pressure applied,
  • Horizontal shearing force, in any axis, should never be applied.

Please note: The blade edge is sharp, keep out of reach of children.
