When punching holes or removing this tool from your leather, it must be perpendicular to the perforated leather, and it should not be struck with a metal hammer; instead, use a soft-headed hammer to avoid damaging the tool. Use leather that is not so thick that it is difficult to remove, if you're working with leather that's thick enough to make removal difficult, you'll need a larger pricking iron. The excellent tool's heavily tempered prongs have a dual purpose: Not only are the prongs exceptionally hard and optimised for penetration, but they safeguard your leatherwork from uneven stitching by breaking, rather than bending, when over stressed. This feature prevents the pricking iron from leaving uneven stitch holes, that can result from a bent prong that occurs with cheaper pricking irons.
