To use this tool, you can drive the gouge into the wood using a chisel hammer or mallet, or use your hand and arm pressure only. The gouge can make shallow or deep cuts depending on the pressure applied. When making hollow cuts with the U-gouge, apply more pressure to the gouge compared to when you are only using it to trim the wood.
Warning: You can snap the blade if you bury it too deep in the wood. So make sure when you use this U-gouge chisel, you don't drive it too deep, and make sure it makes the full cut come out at the other side. The blade edge is sharp, keep out of reach of children. Store the blade without coming into contact with hard surfaces to avoid dulling the cutting edge.
