This Japanese U gouge features a wide, 15-millimeter sweep that will carve out a larger chunk of wood with each stroke, while still precise enough to allow for accurate movements and shapes to unfold. The handle is crafted out of premium Japanese cypress wood that is as sleek as it is smooth and comfortable to wield. Attached to the handle is an ultra-strong Blue Paper Steel (Aogami No.2) blade that can easily remove wood in a smooth and even way, that won't leave behind jagged edges.
This tool can be used in larger types of woodcrafts for removing large amounts of wood. Its shallow gouge carves off wood surface without creating deep cuts, perfect for smoothing out wood surfaces.

To use this shallow U gouge, place the wood to be carved on a bench, clamp the wood down if possible to avoid unnecessary movements when carving. Remove any dirt or debris on the surface of the wood as this will affect the tool's performance. Hold the handle as you would a pen with your dominant hand, then and push forward against your wood, using the thumb of your non-dominant hand as a guide and to assist in the forward movement. For additional control, you can place your index and middle finger of your dominant hand on the blade to guide the cutting edge.
Please note: The blade edge is sharp, keep out of the reach of children. Store without the blade contacting any hard surface to avoid dulling the cutting edge.
