This Tsunesaburo Shunran scraper plane is a traditional Japanese tool designed to precision straightening and a refined surface finish on timber without the need for a sander. With a white oak body and a blade forged from blue steel and sandwiched onto very soft iron, this scraping plane delivers the performance expected by craftsmen who demand consistent, high-quality results. The elegant simplicity of its form hides a serious capacity for fine work.

This scraping plane is commonly used for straightening tasks during final finishing of hardwood and softwood panels. It is especially suited for carpenters and joiners working on tabletops, beams, cabinetry panels, or handmade furniture. Its simple design also makes it a popular option for fine adjustments before assembly in traditional woodworking projects, when only the highest precision will do.

Product Data:
• Weight: 350g
• Dimensions: H 50 x W 70 x L 150mm
• Blade Width: 42mm
• Handle Material: White oak
• Blade Material: Blue steel, with soft iron backing

To use ensure the blade is sharpened, and properly stropped before use. Extend the blade to the desired length by gently tapping the back of the blade with a soft head hammer, to retract gentle tap the top of the body of the plane behind the blade. Hold the wooden body firmly in both hands and draw the plane towards you, applying even pressure to achieve a clean, smooth shaving of the wood surface, removing only paper thing amounts of wood at a time. Regular sharpening ensures optimal performance.

Keep the blade lightly oiled after use to prevent rust, especially since the blue steel is not stainless. Store the plane in a dry place, preferably in a tool wrap or box, with the blade edge not in contact with hard surfaces.
