Dear U.S. Customers,
It is with great regret that we must announce another change to the tariffs imposed on purchases shipped from Japan to the United States.
We had hoped that these additional tariffs would come to an end following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, known as IEEPA, did not authorise the President to impose tariffs. Unfortunately, the temporary replacement tariff has now been replaced by a new tariff introduced by the Trump administration under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
As a result, most affected products imported from Japan will now be subject to a 12.5% U.S. tariff.
The new tariff has been justified on the basis that Japan does not maintain the same type of blanket import ban used by the United States against goods suspected of being produced with forced labour. However, forced labour is prohibited under Japanese law, and Japan has one of the lowest estimated rates of modern slavery in the world. The 2023 Global Slavery Index ranked Japan 152nd out of 160 countries by prevalence, placing it among the countries with the lowest estimated rates. Goods Japan does not accept forced labour under any circumstances and does not knowingly source or sell goods produced using forced labour.

We are deeply disappointed that U.S. customers will continue to face additional costs when purchasing products from Japan. These tariffs are imposed by the United States Government and are entirely outside the control of Goods Japan.
We will continue doing everything reasonably possible to keep our products and shipping affordable and to inform customers promptly of any further changes.
Thank you very much for your patience, understanding and continued support.
Cheers,
The Goods Japan Team
