15% Trump Tariffs Remain in Effect Despite US Supreme Court Ruling Until July

Dear U.S. Customers,

We wanted to share a brief update on the latest Trump Tariff news.

You may have seen reports that elements of the first Trump Tariff were ruled unlawful by the U.S. Supreme Court and struck down. That first tariff had been imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA. Unfortunately, despite this victory for U.S. consumers, the ruling did not bring immediate relief for our U.S. customers, as President Trump immediately turned to a different legal power, Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, to keep a temporary import surcharge in place for up to 150 days.

Despite exhausting all efforts, we were unsuccessful in finding lawful alternatives to this tax. Therefore, it is with regret that we must inform our U.S. customers that their purchases remain subject to the 15% tariff burden on Japanese imports until at least 24 July 2026. Under the White House proclamation, the Section 122 surcharge took effect on 24 February 2026 and runs until 24 July 2026 unless it is ended earlier or extended by Congress.

As always, please know we will continue doing our best to keep shipping available and as affordable as possible, and we will post further updates as soon as the situation changes again.

Cheers,
 The Goods Japan Team
