This Nijigami leather edge burnisher slicker is a handheld leathercraft finishing tool used to polish and compress the exposed edges of leather. Burnishing is a common finishing technique in leathercraft that smooths the cut edge of leather, compresses loose fibres, and creates a clean, sealed edge appearance on leather goods.

The compact burnisher is designed for detailed edge finishing where larger wooden burnishing blocks may be difficult to control. Its small palm-sized form allows the tool to fit comfortably in the hand, making it suitable for controlled edge polishing and compression work.

The burnisher features two ends with different widths, allowing the user to work with various leather edge sizes. This design helps leatherworkers polish narrow or wider edges while compressing leather fibres during finishing.

The tool is commonly used when finishing leather items such as belts, wallets, straps, bags, cases, and other small leather accessories where a smooth and polished edge is required.

The burnisher is made from bubinga wood, a dense African hardwood valued for its durability and smooth surface. Bubinga is sometimes referred to as “African rosewood” due to its reddish colour and hardness, although it is not a true rosewood species. Bubinga is also used in musical instruments such as guitars, percussion instruments, and traditional drums. The hardness and natural smoothness of the wood help generate friction against leather edges, assisting in compressing fibres and producing a polished finish during burnishing.

Product Data:

To use the tool, apply water or an edge finishing compound to the leather edge and rub the burnisher along the edge while applying moderate pressure. Move the tool repeatedly along the edge until the fibres compress and the edge becomes smooth and polished.

After use, wipe the burnisher clean and store it in a dry environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture to preserve the wooden surface. Keep out of reach of children.
