Each and every tool made by Oka is tested and sharpened individually to give users a premium quality leathercrafting experience, as is the case with this Pro Edger Beveller. Made with an ebony wood handle, fastened in place with a machined brass ferrule which prevents the wood from splitting, and a sharp Japanese beveling blade, specifically designed to cut leather edges with precision. This edge beveller is capable of being sharpened multiple times, ensuring your tool will last far longer than regular tools that are designed not to be sharpened, giving you excellent value for money.

Ready to use right out of the packaging, the No. 3 blade width is 1.2mm and is best used for leather thicknesses at about 2-3mm (6-8ounces). It is versatile for its size and can be used in other leather thicknesses with no problem.

Approximate Dimensions & Product Data:

  • Handle (Ebony)
  • Ferrule (Machined brass)
  • Blade (Steel)
  • Blade Width: 1.2mm

To use this Leather Edger, first, soften the leather to make it easier for the tool to bevel by dampening it with a wet, lint-free cloth or a sponge and allow to dry. Place the blade edge centered at the edge of the leather. Make sure to hold the tool at a proper angle before cutting the edges. If you are satisfied with the bevel, start applying burnishing agent and polishing the edges.

To sharpen this beveller use a thin metal rod, or similar implement, that can be placed under #1000 grit sandpaper to act as a ridge that will ensure the sandpaper will fully contact the underside of the cutting edge of the blade when the beveller blade is placed on top. Using your implement and sandpaper, dampen the sandpaper with mineral oil and draw the blade across the sandpaper in a pulling motion (do not push), repeat until the desired sharpness is attained. To ensure a long lasting sharpness, strop the sharpened blade with the flesh side of a piece of leather using jewellers rouge.

Please note: The blade edge is sharp, keep out of the reach of children.
