This Yoita Shikii Sakuri Plane 18mm is a specialised Japanese woodworking tool designed for crafting accurate grooves in shikii or shoji sliding door tracks or similar dado work. The robust SK-5 carbon steel blade ensures a crisp, clean cut, while the smooth beechwood body offers stability and comfort during use. Ideal for woodworkers seeking precision, this narrow-bladed plane performs especially well in delicate, high-detail carpentry projects.

Beyond traditional shoji and fusuma door track making, this plane is also excellent for crafting small rebates, cleaning dadoes, or working around tight joinery where a larger plane cannot reach. It serves both professional carpenters and DIY hobbyists handling projects such as cabinetmaking, drawer runners, or wooden frames with fine tolerances.

Product Data:
• Blade Width: 18mm
• Body Length: 210mm
• Body Width: 50mm
• Handle Material: Beech
• Blade Material: Carbon tool steel (SK-5)

To use, hold the plane firmly with your dominant hand, aligning the sole flush with the intended groove or edge. Guide the blade through the material using controlled, even strokes. Check depth and alignment regularly to maintain accuracy. Avoid forcing the plane, and allow the weight and sharpness of the blade to do the cutting. To extend the blade, gently tap the back of the blade with a wooden hammer until it has extended to the desired length, to retract, tap on the rear of the body of the plane until the blade retracts as required.

Store the plane in a dry location away from moisture and impact. Always apply a light coating of oil to the blade after use to prevent rust. Do not allow the cutting edge to come into contact with hard surfaces. Keep out of reach of children and ensure safe handling at all times.
