This excellent woodcarving Tsuki Nomi U gouge is made in Japan by Michihamono is forged from quality White Paper Steel (Shirogami No. 2), this steel is extremely fine grained and displays phenomenal sharpening and edge holding characteristics when forged after heat-treatment. A ferrule is added to ensure the handle will be less susceptible to splitting and the tang will not separate. The long, smooth handle is made from cherry blossom wood that provides comfort and great control when carving.

This Tsuki Nomi tool fills the mid role between the full sized socket wood carving tool and the smaller wood carving hand tools. It can be used to carve grooves without the corners of the tool digging into the wood. It is useful in preliminary roughing out for removing medium sized chunks of wood. It has a higher angle bevel than fine wood carving hand tools, but with a more shallow angle bevel on the blade, that cuts sharper than full sized socket wood carving tools.
